Graduates entering the hospitality industry must ensure their competencies align with industry demands to enhance employability and career readiness. This study explored the significant influence of BS Hospitality Management's on-the-job training competencies and alignment of industry needs. The study utilized a descriptive-correlational research design was employed. This study was conducted at Misamis University, focusing on thirty (30) recent BSHM graduates and industry professionals—student Intern Evaluation Sheets. Mean and Standard Deviation and regression analysis were used for data interpretation. The result shows that graduates excel in critical abilities such as communication, empathy, problem-solving, Teamwork, customer relationship development, and adaptability. They excel in essential business office competence, professional behaviour, and communication skills in industry needs.
The alignment between OJT's capabilities and industry requirements is good. While the communication skills and overall OJT competencies significantly impact professional competence, Communication skills and overall OJT competencies substantially influence professional competence. In contrast, problem-solving and Teamwork are considered baseline standards. The findings indicate a "high" degree of competency in important domains, including communication, empathy, cooperation, and problem-solving. While the BSHM curriculum provides students with essential basic competencies, there is also a lack of public speaking, advanced technical skills, and leadership development. Findings indicate a good alignment between OJT competencies and industry needs in foundational areas. The study concludes that the BSHM program at Misamis University successfully provides students with essential skills like communication, Teamwork, problem-solving, and meeting basic industry standards. However, to keep pace with the changing needs of the hospitality sector, enhancements are needed in advanced technical proficiency, public speaking abilities, and leadership development within the curriculum. These upgrades are crucial for ensuring that graduates are prepared for their careers and poised to excel in specialized and leadership positions within the industry. It recommends integrating advanced technical training, public speaking workshops, and analytical skill development to better align the program with the dynamic demands of the hospitality industry.
