- Abstract
- Heavy metal pollution of water by lead (Pb) is a severe environmental and health issue. This research aimed to identify the effectiveness of N. fruticans (nipa palm) biochar as a low-cost, eco-friendly, and alternative adsorbent for the removal of lead from contaminated water systems. The biochar was generated by pyrolysis of dried N. fruticans biomass and used on polluted water with known concentrations of Pb. F.A.S.T. Laboratory analysis utilized electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry (ETAAS) to analyze heavy metal concentration prior and after treatment. The findings indicated that N. fruticans biochar efficiently decreases the concentrations of Pb, which signified its possibility as a sustainable water purification and environmental remediation solution with the use of locally sourced materials.
