- Abstract
- Public transportation is a crucial component of the tourism industry, particularly in rural destinations where accessibility challenges may affect tourist satisfaction and revisit intention. This study explored the significant relationship between public transportation availability on tourist satisfaction and revisit intention in rural tourist destinations in Misamis Occidental, Philippines. This study utilized a descriptive-correlational research design. It was conducted in the 3 cities of Misamis Occidental. A random sampling technique was used among 384 respondents. Public Transportation Availability, Tourist Satisfaction, and Revisit Intention Questionnaires were used to gather the data. Mean and standard deviation and Pearson's correlation coefficient were used as statistical tools. The study revealed that public transportation availability in rural destinations of Misamis Occidental was generally evident, indicating that the tourists generally perceived transportation services in the area. Meanwhile, tourist satisfaction was moderate, which denotes that the tourists generally had acceptable experiences while visiting the area, yet key areas that could be improved to enhance their overall enjoyment were identified. While revisit intention was rated high, it indicated that tourists were generally inclined to return to the destinations, which suggests that their prior experiences, including transportation, attractions, and the destination image of the area, positively influenced their return. Findings show that when tourists can easily reach their destinations with minimal hassle, their travel becomes more enjoyable, encouraging repeat visits. These factors directly affect their overall perception and willingness to revisit. Thus, improving transportation services, especially in comfort and safety, can lead to greater tourist satisfaction and higher chances of tourists’ return.
