- Abstract
- Food handlers play a crucial role in maintaining food safety and ensuring that food served to the public is safe for consumption. The purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding food safety of selected carinderia food handlers through a structured survey tool to obtain relevant information. A total of 85 food handlers from carinderias were selected through convenience sampling so that the data collected would reflect the level of food safety awareness and practices among these food handlers. The data was analyzed through means, standard deviations, and the Pearson correlation. The results of the study show that there is a significantly large positive correlation between the personal hygiene practices of food handlers and their level of knowledge in food safety. Such a significant relationship implies that education on food safety is important because it means increased knowledge directly leads to improved hygiene practices among food handlers. This, therefore, means the finding supports the overall aim of the research: investigating how food safety knowledge impacts actual practice. However, there is an absence of a significant link between food safety attitudes and food safety practices among selected food handlers in carinderias. It is recommended that future researchers should conduct further analysis regarding food handler’s attitude towards food safety practices.
