Effective sentence construction is essential to clear, coherent, and grammatically
accurate communication in English. This study determined the effectiveness of the
Sentence Scramble Strategy in enhancing the sentence construction skills of Grade 8
students in English during the School Year 2025–2026 in a selected secondary school in
Ozamiz City. The study aimed to assess the students’ level of sentence construction skills
before and after the implementation of the strategy and determine whether a significant
difference existed between the pretest and posttest results. A classroom-based action
research pretest–posttest design was utilized involving 34 Grade 8 students as respondents.
Research instruments included a researcher-designed sentence construction test, lesson
plans, and a scoring rubric that measured grammatical accuracy, sentence structure, and
clarity of meaning. The Sentence Scramble Strategy was systematically integrated into the
application part of every English lesson through guided and independent sentence
arrangement activities. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and pairedsample t-test. Findings showed that students’ sentence construction skills improved from
Developing before the intervention to Highly Proficient after the implementation of the
Sentence Scramble Strategy. A very highly significant difference was found between the
pretest and posttest scores. The results indicate that the strategy effectively improved
students’ grammatical accuracy, sentence coherence, syntactic awareness, and writing
fluency. English teachers may integrate the Sentence Scramble Strategy regularly into
classroom instruction to strengthen students’ sentence construction and writing skills.
