Abstract

As digital tools become more common in hospitals and clinical settings, nursing students are expected to learn how to use them effectively to provide safe and efficient patient care. Nursing informatics plays a vital role in helping students manage patient data, make better decisions, and communicate with other healthcare professionals. This study aimed to explore how nursing students perceive the benefits of integrating informatics into nursing and the relationship between these perceptions and students' confidence in applying informatics in clinical settings. It was guided by Benner's Novice-to-Expert Theory and Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations Theory, which explain how students develop competence over time and how they adopt new technologies. A quantitative, descriptive-correlational research design was used. The study was conducted at Misamis University and involved 147 third-year nursing students who had completed the Nursing Informatics course. Data were collected using a validated, researcher-developed questionnaire and analyzed using means, standard deviations, and Pearson's correlation. The findings showed that students rated informatics very highly. Students also reported high confidence in using informatics tools in their clinical practice. A significant, positive relationship was found between perceived benefits and students' level of confidence. The study recommends that nursing schools continue to assess and evaluate students' informatics competencies and perceptions throughout their academic careers. Additional research could examine other factors affecting students' competency and confidence in informatics.
