Globally, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) continue to be the primary cause of morbidity and death. This study explored the levels of awareness and attitudes towards cardiovascular disease risk factors among maritime students and the importance of health teaching interventions before exposure emphasized to the field. Four components of the Health Belief Model were used to measure the level of awareness and attitudes toward CVD. Descriptive correlational research methodology was used to collect correct data for extensive correlation analysis. The 170 respondents were 18-25 years old and chosen by Systematic Sampling. The study found a high mean score of 3.21 for CVD risk factor awareness and a mean score of 3.29 for attitude but no significant link (p-value of 0.84) between the two. This research indicated that marine students are aware of CVD risk factors and prevention measures due to excellent educational programs.
Results showed a 0.60 r-value and 0.84 p-values. The p-value over 0.05 supported the null hypothesis. The attitude towards CVD risk factors was classified as "High" based on the calculated overall weighted mean of 3.21 and a standard deviation of 0.63. A significant relationship between the variables resulted in a correlation coefficient of 0.60 and a significant level (p-value) of 0.84. The null hypothesis was accepted since the p-value was greater than 0.05. Therefore, respondents' attitudes towards cardiovascular illness were not influenced by their knowledge. The study suggests studying societal, individual, and psychological variables that affect CVD attitudes and behaviours. - Keywords
