Abstract

Dengue fever, spread by Aedes mosquitoes (especially Aedes aegypti), is a major global health challenge, affecting millions yearly and often requiring hospitalization in tropical areas with poor mosquito control. This study aimed to assess levels of knowledge, attitudes, and preventive practices regarding dengue fever prevention in Tudela, Misamis Occidental, using Rosenstock’s Health Belief Model (HBM) as the theoretical framework. A descriptive-correlational research design was employed, involving 167 respondents selected through stratified purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires, and responses were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson's product-moment correlation Coefficient (r). The respondents demonstrated an excellent level of knowledge on dengue prevention, with a strong understanding across transmission modes, vector characteristics, and prevention measures. Attitudes towards dengue prevention were very good, reflecting a willingness to engage in community efforts and acknowledge prevention benefits. Preventive practices were rated very good, indicating frequent engagement in personal protection, environmental management, and mosquito control. Significant relationships were found between knowledge and preventive practices (except for transmission mode vs. environmental management), as well as between attitudes and preventive practices, highlighting the role of informed, positive community engagement in dengue prevention. Conclusions and recommendations underscore the importance of community-led educational initiatives and innovative mosquito control strategies to sustain high levels of awareness and effective preventive practices.
