Abstract

Emergency or disaster response involves a variety of actions aimed at safeguarding life and property as well as dealing with the social disturbance caused by disasters. Due to natural disasters, schools should be on the lookout for information when one is approaching and disseminate it to the communities and stakeholders in school-based education so that they can prepare and stay safe when it occurs. This research aims to investigate the level of awareness and preparedness for disaster response among nursing students. The study used a quantitative research approach, specifically the descriptive correlational method, and was conducted in a HEI in Ozamiz City with a sample size of 120 nursing students. A researcher-made questionnaire was used to gather pertinent data, which was analyzed using frequency, percentage, and average weighted mean. The research study found that the level of awareness and level of preparedness for disaster response among nursing students is very high. Furthermore, the study found no significant relationship between the level of awareness and preparedness for disaster response among nursing students. This suggests that even though nursing students have a high level of awareness of various disaster response measures, this awareness does not necessarily transfer into an increased level of readiness. While there are areas for improvement, the results indicate a strong foundation upon which the school can further enhance safety measures and educate students about emergency protocols.
