Abstract

Online distance learning, an educational approach, was established for the continuation of learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Depending on the structure and method of delivery of the curriculum, learners may succeed in their academic journey. This study examined the perception on effectiveness of online distance learning and academic performance of fourth-year paramedical students. A descriptive-correlational research design was utilized in this quantitative study. It took place in one of the Higher Education Institutions in Ozamiz City, Philippines. There were 93 fourth-year paramedical students selected to participate in the study through stratified random sampling. In data gathering, a modified questionnaire was utilized, and the grade point average employed by HEIs from the second semester of the academic year 2021–2022 was used by the researchers to evaluate the academic performance of the students. The collected data was examined using the Frequency and Percentage, Mean and Standard Deviation, and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient tests. The findings of the study showed that students perceived online distance learning as effective in terms of usage, time allocation, and learning comprehension. The respondent’s academic performance during online distance learning was very satisfactory. It also showed no significant relationship between the respondents’ perception of the effectiveness of online distance learning and their academic performance. There is no significant relationship since the perception of the students does not vary from their performance or how they spent their time during their online distance learning.
