Social media has attracted attention and become a necessity for users of all ages, particularly college students as they use it mostly for entertainment, communication, and academic purposes. One of the negative consequences of excessive social media use is deterioration in mental health. This study aimed to simultaneously investigate social media utilization, level of stress, and psychological well-being among college students. The research utilized a descriptive correlational design, collecting data through a researcher made questionnaire, administered to 100 college students in a university in Ozamiz City, Misamis Occidental. Frequency and Percentage, Mean and standard deviation, F test and T test, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient were used as statistical methods and techniques to derive comprehensive, valid, and reliable result. The findings revealed that the majority of college student were fairly represented by both genders, belong to poor family and Roman Catholicism being dominant among them. Facebook was the most used social media platform, followed by YouTube and TikTok. It also revealed that college student had low levels of stress in both psych emotional and physical dimensions, indicating effective stress management strategies. Their psychological wellbeing was good, reflecting positive mental states and functioning in various dimensions. The finding also revealed that college student’s level of stress had no significant difference when grouped according to their profile. In terms of their psychological well-being, it showed no significant difference when grouped according to their profile. However, the number of hours spent on social media showed a significant relationship with both level of stress and psychological well-being. The respondent’s level of stress is not associated with their psychological well-being. Therefore, the demographic
profile and social media utilization did not affect the level of stress and psychological well-being of the college student but excessive used of social media, exceeding 4 hours per day is associated with higher level of stress and potential negative effects on psychological well-being of the college students.
