- Abstract
- Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, was affirmed a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2020 (WHO, 2020), and the pandemic has had a significant impact on older persons worldwide. Vaccination against COVID-19 reduces symptomatic COVID-19 in the older adult population and promotes protection against the harsh disease. The research intended to determine the older adults’ experiences with constraints on getting vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccination that was administered to them. The researchers gathered information using qualitative methods, specifically the hermeneutic phenomenological approach described by Van Manen. The study was conducted within Ozamiz City. This study utilized elderly people using purposive snowball sampling; there were 8 participants. The researchers used guide questions as the tool for data collection. Max van Manen’s Existential Life Worlds served as a direction in analyzing the data and drawing the essence of the experience of constraints among elderly recipients. These lived experiences include lived self-other or relationality, lived body or corporeality, lived space or spatiality, lived time or temporality, and lived things or materiality. The various iterative analyses of the phenomenon generated the following meanings. Thematic meaning developed the experience of constraints on COVID-19 vaccination among elderly adults. These include (1) Skepticism, (2) Conformity, (3) Flexile Attitude, (4) Resilience (5) Exuberant Contentment. Provide house-to-house vaccination services for elderly individuals who are unable to travel to vaccination centers due to mobility issues. Provide easily understandable information about the vaccination process, including what to expect before, during, and after the vaccination, and offer assistance during emergencies or times of heightened stress.
