Abstract

Imaging procedures are crucial in diagnosing and treating numerous illnesses. They are employed to generate visual representations of internal human body structures and functions. This study explored the correlation between patients’ level of anxiety, comfort, and compliance to imaging procedures in selected hospitals of Ozamiz City. For this study, a quantitative approach was employed using a descriptive-correlation design. A total of 100 patients who have undergone imaging procedures were chosen as the respondents of the study, selected through a non-random convenience sampling. Data were collected using a validated three-part modified and researcher-made questionnaire. Mean, standard deviation, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient were used for data analysis. The results showed that the respondents had a high level of anxiety suggesting that imaging procedure is a significant source of stress for patients. Additionally, results showed that the respondents demonstrated a very high level of comfort to imaging procedures. This very high level of comfort indicates that the selected private hospitals in the city and their radiology departments are making the imaging procedures comfortable for patients. Patients were also found to be hesitantly compliant to imaging procedures. Highly significant correlation was found between the patients’ level of anxiety, comfort, and compliance to imaging procedures among patients in selected hospitals. These findings underscore the crucial importance of managing patient anxiety and ensuring a comfortable imaging environment to enhance compliance with imaging procedures. It is recommended that Radiologic technologist may be more supportive and patient-centered to ultimately improve the overall quality of care provided during imaging procedures. Radiologic technology students may also be aware of the significant existence and impact of anxiety on patients. Furthermore, hospitals within Ozamiz City may prioritize the implementation of strategies focused on managing patient anxiety and enhancing patient comfort in the medical imaging environments.
