Abstract

Disasters posed significant challenges to the people, and implementing proactive disaster preparedness across various sectors was crucial. This study evaluated the levels of disaster preparedness and awareness among allied health students at Misamis University. This study was anchored in the Protective Action Decision Model, the research explored differences in preparedness based on student profiles and proposed a program to enhance disaster preparedness and awareness. The study utilized a quantitative approach and employed Slovin’s formula to determine a sample size of 805 from a population of 1,008, using stratified random sampling to ensure representation across all academic years and courses. Findings indicated commendable levels of disaster preparedness and awareness among students, evident in their adherence to safety protocols during disasters and active participation in preparedness activities. Statistical analyses
revealed non-significant p-values (8.146 for courses, 0.374 for year levels), indicating uniform preparedness levels irrespective of academic discipline or progression. Although variability existed (F-value = 0.78), it did not reach statistical significance. In conclusion, while allied health students exhibited robust disaster readiness, continual enhancement through targeted interventions is essential to address identified gaps. Emphasizing the allied health students’ pivotal role in disaster response and prevention, this study advocated tailored training programs to integrate students more effectively into broader disaster preparedness initiatives.
