Financial stress is a common challenge faced by nursing students due to tuition fees, academic requirements, and daily living expenses, and it has the potential to
influence their academic performance. This study aimed to determine the levels of financial stress, coping strategies, and academic performance among nursing students and to examine the relationships among these variables. The study was anchored on Sister Callista Roy’s Adaptation Model and Lazarus and Folkman’s Stress and Coping Theory.
A quantitative, descriptive-correlational research design was utilized, and a simple random sampling technique was employed to select 147 third-year nursing students from a private university in Ozamiz City, Philippines. Data were collected using a validated
researcher-made questionnaire that assessed financial stress, coping strategies, and academic performance. The data were analyzed using Mean, Standard Deviation, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation Coefficient. The results revealed that students experienced a high level of financial stress, with mindfulness and self-care identified as the most frequently used coping strategies. Despite these stressors, students generally maintained good academic performance. However, the analysis indicated that financial stress and coping strategies did not show a statistically significant relationship with academic performance.
