Abstract

This study explores at how Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers in Ozamiz City view the new traffic lights. It focuses on their satisfaction, perceived effectiveness, and safety. In cities where public utility vehicles are the main form of transportation, efficient traffic management is essential to enhancing urban mobility and road safety. A descriptivecorrelational research design was used to collect and analyze data from major intersections where the traffic lights have been installed. The respondents included 120 randomly selected PUV drivers who often work in these areas. To gather data, structured questionnaires were distributed after obtaining permission from local authorities. A pilot test ensured the questionnaires were reliable before they were fully used. Descriptive statistics, like mean and standard deviation, measured drivers’ levels of satisfaction, effectiveness, and safety perceptions. Pearson correlation coefficients were used to explore relationships between these factors. The results showed that drivers felt very highly satisfied with the traffic lights, particularly regarding traffic flow, waiting time, convenience, and compliance. They viewed the system as very highly effective in reducing congestion and travel time, thus improving operational efficiency. Additionally, drivers considered the traffic lights to be very safe, expressing strong confidence in intersection safety and a perceived reduction in accidents. However, the analysis revealed no significant relationship between satisfaction or perceived effectiveness and perceived safety. These findings underscore the need for overall traffic safety strategies that include infrastructure upgrades, law enforcement, and driver education to maintain safety and efficiency in Ozamiz City. Therefore, it is recommended that traffic management agencies use an integrated approach that combines these measures to enhance overall road safety
